Experience the Alta Via N.2, one of the most beautiful, diverse, and challenging trails in the Dolomites. From the top of Piz Boé, across the Sella Massif, to the Valley of Shadows beneath the majestic Marmolada, you’ll hike north to south, from rifugio to rifugio, for a wonderful and varied perspective of the Dolomite Mountains.
One of the best ways to explore the Dolomites is hiking an Alta Via, the beautiful long-distance “high routes” of the Dolomites. The Alta Via 2 is the furthest west of the Alta Vie. Dubbed the “Alta Via delle Leggende,” or High Route of Legends, the AV2 is undeniably more strenuous than the AV1, remaining at higher elevations throughout (as high as 2,900m / 9,514'), and with great reward.
Our moderate to challenging trips are demanding, with a whole lot of fun along the way. There will be no question in your mind whether you accomplished something at the end of each day! Hikes range from 4 to 8 hours, usually lasting all day with a stop for lunch, and average 10-16 kilometers / 6-10 miles per day. Ascents and descents can be up to 300-900 meters / 1,000-3,000 feet. Terrain can be on a variety of surfaces, including rugged single-track trails, uneven gravely surfaces, and scree slopes, and are often steep. Having good balance and being sure footed on trails is important. While the pace is not leisurely, it is always comfortable, and there are ample stops for water and snacks to keep you going.
